Kandinsky inspired trees

We looked at the artwork of a Russian artist called Kandinsky. We liked the painting of the circles inside squares.

We made our own Kandinsky inspired Hertford Learning Trees. They look so good decorating our classroom.

Felting

Today we started preparing for Christmas. We had fun making felt shapes which we are going to decorate and use for our class advent calendar.

Then we met up with the Kingfishers so we could learn more about the story we are going to use as our Christmas play this year. It is a Russian story called Papa Panov. We won’t give out too many spoilers but we will have music, dancing, acting and narrators. Everyone signed up for a job. Some people will also be designing and making props.

Fireworks!

What a fantastic first day back. We got so much done and all worked really hard. We have been doing firework wax resist paintings and writing amazing firework poems.
We learnt about:-
onomatopoeias (words that make the sound they are describing – bang, whoosh, zoom, buzz, pop, hum, crack)
Alliteration ( words that start with the same sound – Woody wears wellies)
Similes (describing something like something else – the stars are like diamonds in the sky)

We have tried to use these ideas in our own poems but they are not quite ready yet. We are going to edit them and write them up neat on Wednesday so we will share them on our blog then.

Our pictures are not finished yet either. Tomorrow we are going to add glitter. Here are some photos of us doing the wax drawing..

Hall display

After school today Rachel and Tracey put together all the art work the Kingfishers and Woodpeckers have been doing this week for our hall display board. The theme is endangered species and we found out about local endangered species in Brighton. Have you seen any of these plants or animals.
