October is Black History Month. This week in our school we have been celebrating Black History week.
We have been looking at significant people that have made history.
Yesterday we learnt about Dr Martin Luther King Jr. What an amazing man he was. We looked at words to describe Martin Luther King. He was brave, kind, and he persevered. We learnt how he fought for equality. Equality means fairness.
We wrote our own ‘I have a dream’ speeches to make changes to the world for the good of mankind. Please come and look at our class book which has our dreams in it.
We looked at some eggs that Tracey’s chicken laid
We talked about the eggs. The children said that:
The eggs were different colours, but they were the same on the inside. If we were to cook with them it wouldn’t matter which one we would use as they are both the same on the inside. Just like people.
Today we learnt about ‘Dr Brighton’ – Sake Dean Mahoumed. He was an ambitious man. He opened the first ever Indian Restaurant in England in 1810. He then came to Brighton with his wife in 1814 and opened the first shampooing – Indian medicated shampooing bath. It was a great success and he became known as Dr Brighton and shampooing surgeon to George IV and WIlliam IV.
We looked at his portrait and portraits of our learning partners. We were critical friends and talked about how our portraits could be improved. We are still working on our portraits to make them really great.
Please look on our website on the Year 2 page ( you will need to log on to access Year 2 pages) There is lots more inofrmation about Martin Luther King and Sake Dean Mahoumed.
In recorders today we learnt how to play C and D and composed our own music.
Have you a recorder at home? Maybe you could practice our tune. Lets perform to the whole school!
